Tour de France - July 2003 Doing a mountain climb ahead of the Tour
|
On Sunday we rode to the top of the Col
de Peyresourde where the race finished
for the day. We rode back down a
couple of switchbacks to position
ourselves to watch the caravan and the
Tour come by Of course, a baguette and
a bottle of wine eased the waiting..
The caravan rolls through an hour or so before
the riders. The caravan consists of vehicles from
the many sponsors, and is accompanied by music
and the tossing of souvenirs to the spectators.
Here comes the first rider of the Tour! He is preceded by
a motorcyclist and followed by his team support vehicle.
This was our viewing point. You can
see John, Christine and Eli on the other
side of the road.
The road is closed to vehicles hours
before the Tour comes by and is closed
to cyclists like ourselves a couple of
hours before the Tour passes. The
campers have probably been here at least
for a day.
Another rider on his way to the finish at the top
You can see a couple of riders just in
front of the red car
